BOB DYLAN Archive: CD Storage Book
The BOB DYLAN Archive includes a separate storage book, or binder.
The BD Archive CD storage book is expandable and adaptable.
Here are some helpful hints:
REMOVING AND RE-INSERTING THE CD STORAGE BOOK OUT OF AND BACK INTO THE SLIPCASE BOX:
When you first open the magnetic flap on the right spine (when the Bob Dylan Fender Bass photo is facing you) of the slipcase box, the CD storage book is the book with the widest spine inside the slipcase. It is also the book with the black ribbon. You pull on the ribbon to remove the CD storage book.
We suggest that when you remove the CD storage book from the slipcase, and when you reinsert it back into the slipcase (especially once it is loaded with CDs), you do so with the slipcase lying flat on a table or shelf. The first time you pull it out (using the white ribbon) you will most likely do so with the photo side of the slipcase (the side with the JOHN LENNON portrait) facing up, and the back side of the CD storage book (the side that reads “IF YOU WANT IT”) facing up . Once you begin loading in your CDs, however, you may prefer to reinsert the CD storage book, and thereafter remove the CD storage book, with the photo side of the slipcase facing down, and the front side of the CD storage book (the side with the black on black Dylan portrait) facing up. We suggest this simply so you need not flip over the loaded book when reinserting or removing it. (If this sounds confusing now, it should make sense one you start doing it.)
The CD storage book slides in and out of the slipcase around a white “track” that runs along the top and bottom of the inside of the slipcase. This track helps hold the CD storage book in place. When you slip the CD storage book inside, make sure the cover edges (the part of the CD storage book that goes into the slipcase first) are not pinched together, even when the CD storage book is not yet loaded with CDs. You want the cover edges to be spaced apart enough to run along the outside of the white track. The easiest way to do this is insert the back cover (the side without the protrait ) flat along the left side of the inside of the slipcase, holding the front cover page slightly open, guiding it around the right side of the white tracks in the top and bottom of the slipcase, as you insert it. If for some reason the CD storage book does not seem to be going all the way into the cavity inside the slipcase, dont force it. Instead, turn the entire slipcase (with the CD storage book still partially inserted) onto its left side spine (that is the spine that does not open) and let gravity guide the CD storage book into place. (If need be, once the slipcase is on its left side spine, pull the CD storage book up slightly out of the slipcase, then let go, and it should slip into place.)
The CD storage book should always be inserted into the slipcase closest to the front (the side of the slipcase with the Bob Dylan playing the Fender Bass photo). This is the portion of the inside of the slipcase with the deepest cavity. (Because the CD slipcase is wider than the other two books that slip into the slipcase, it needs a deeper cavity). It is also the portion of the inside of the slipcase with the white track along the top and bottom to guide the CD storage book into place.
The CD storage book should be the first book you remove and the first book you re-insert into the slipcase. Because it is the widest book, and fits into the deepest cavity, once it is in place in the slipcase it will be easier to insert the other books. If you insert the other books without the CD storage book in place, you may need to make sure they do not slip into the depeer cavity for the CD storage book. Because the CD storage book is the one with the black ribbon, once you pull the ribbon and remove the CD storage book, it will be easier to access the other books.
ADAPTING THE CD STORAGE BOOK FOR YOUR OWN BOB DYLAN COLLECTION OF CDs.
The BOB DYLAN Archive comes with at least 2 non-designated spaces for you to store any Bob Dylan CDs that you may own, or even new ones.
In addition, the screw in bolts in the CD storage book are spaced in the standard spacing of most aftermarket CD storage pages you can find wherever you find CD storage binders. You may add these aftermarket pages to expand the storage capacity of your BOB DYLAN Archive CD storage book. Of course these aftermarket pages are inferior (!) to the patented Box Of Vision CD storage pages….soon we hope to make available additional Box Of Vision storage pages for this purpose.
STORING CDs and CD BOOKLETS IN THE CD STORAGE BOOK
We recommend that you use the CD storage book to store your CDs along with the CD booklets (and/or the mini LP sleeves, for those of your CDs originally packaged that way– eg, the mono CDs) that come with them, as we feel this is the most elegant way to set up and use the CD storage book. Each album/CD space is built to store the CD itself– the CD holding space is the bottom layer of the pocket (the 3/4 circle). The CD booklet holding space is the part of the pocket that lays on top of the CD holding holding space.
We realize, however, that many people prefer to include the digi-pak cardboard boxes that certain of their CDs may originally come packaged in. The pockets in CD storage pages are built to store those digi-pak boxes.
If you look closely at each CD booklet holding space you will notice that it is not completely open on three sides. In fact, the “seam” that is stamped into the vinyl page to hold the outer edge of the pocket to the page below it is notched slightly in on direction to help hold the CD booklet in place and keep it from sliding out of the pocket. If you find that this will not work will all booklets or all digi-paks, see below regarding the provided velcro dots.
We do not recommend that you store CD “jewel cases” (those crappy hard plastic cases that most CDs come packaged in) in your Box Of Vision CD storage book. We think the beauty of the Box Of Vision storage pages are that you can dispose of those crappy hard plastic cases. For those of you who find it hard to part with the tray card (the additional printed piece that is stored under the tray in the crappy hard plastic case, we suggest you remove the tray card and slide it inside the artwork pocket (the big pocket that holds the page of artwork designating which CD should be stored in which space) of your Box Of Vision CD storage page– if you store it with the track-listing, that is usually on the tray card, facing up, you can have easy reference to the track-listing of the particular CD.
USING THE INCLUDED VELCRO DOTS
Your BOB DYLAN Archive comes with a quantity of velcro dots (both the male and female sides). There should be enough sets so you have one for each CD storage pocket that comes in the CD storage book. We include these if you want to help keep in place those CD storage booklets or digi-pak boxes that may rend to slide out of the pockets. We recommend that you place the dots (use the self adhesive side of a male or female dot to adhere it to a spot on the outer edge of the CD holding pocket that will most effectively hold the particular CD booklet or digi-pak in place. Nest the corresponding other velcro dot (the female to the male, or male to the female– we will leave it to you to decide which you consider to be male and which female), and press down on the outer CD storage page to make it stick. I find it most helpful to apply the bottom dot right at the outer corner of the CD digipak box of booklet.

You stated above about offering additional pages for the Dylan storage box. Can you tell me when this might happ themen. When I received the box as a Christmas gift I was a bit let down that there were no pages for the bootleg series of cd’s. These recordings are just as important as Dylan’s regular releases to many of his fans. I am sure that the people who bought this box are also owners of the bootleg series and want to include these the cd book. I hope that this oversight is addressed soon so we can include all of his recordings in this otherwise fantastic box.

Just ‘found’ this fantastic looking product (and The Beatles one) and ordered both tonight. A great concept! I was thinking as I ordered about the Bootleg series, so this discussion was most illuminating. Now I will have to order up some additional sleeves as well!
An added bonus for me is that these two boxes will free up a huge amount of space in my Ikea CD storage towers, buying THEM was costing me a fortune, so to gain about 8 shelves of Dylan and Beatles ‘space’ an absolute Godsend!
I hope they ARE as great looking as they appear on your website and in some YouTube videos I viewed. Can’t wait to receive them.
